Inside the soul of every follower of Jesus is a God-inspired desire for the generous life tailored around Christ’s example of selflessness and sacrifice. It is a Christian distinctive, and, yet, too often that generosity lies dormant within us. We get distracted by the pull of our culture and our own selfishness. We are tempted to hoard what we have, to protect ourselves, to look out for number one. But if our journey is truly a Christ-following journey, it is also a giving journey. God’s entire plan for humanity is an expression of generosity. God invites us to share in that generosity with Him.
2 Corinthians 8 and 9 are all about cultivating a generous life. May God stimulate that divine quality in you as we study this passage today.
